Spring into Art featuring The Garden Woven
by DFW fiber artist Christine Guernsey
A captivating display of art through gardening and weaving
The Ennis Welcome Center is excited to announce Spring into Art, an ongoing art exhibit that will take place annually during bluebonnet season (April). This year the featured exhibit is The Garden Woven, a celebration of the imagery, familiarity and passion for gardening and weaving. This art show will feature the creative Fiberography works of DFW artist Christine Guernsey from Saturday, March 16, 2024 through Friday, May 3, 2024.
Christine’s passion for gardening and weaving has transformed her gardens into a photographic haven, capturing the delicate patterns of leaves, the inner beauty of stamens and pistils, and the extraordinary blossoms that nature unveils. Her intricate process includes printing on cotton fabric, cutting into strips and meticulously weaving them together with a warp of 800 plus individual sewing threads on a simple four harness floor loom.
An opening party will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 7pm at the Welcome Center where you can meet and hear from the artist on her incredible talent and process. Viewers are invited to pause, breathe, and marvel at the mesmerizing details found in gardens that often go unnoticed in the rush of daily life. This tranquil journey of art allows a unique form of exploration and wonder of nature.
The Welcome Center celebrates Ennis’ passion for the arts with unique displays throughout the year. In 2021, the Full Bloom art display was permanently installed just below the ceiling. Artist Michele R. Gutlove from Design Studio GH was inspired by the intense Texas sunlight playing in the Ennis bluebonnets. The art display consists of hand-made glass that interacts with light. Optics of caustic networks and thin film interference creates colors and patterns on the walls and ceilings. There are 21 butterflies flitting through the art.
Ennis is a quick trip south of downtown Dallas, just 35 minutes on Interstate 45.
